A regular feature from the Tennis Works Team that updates you on the world of tennis. The first week of Wimbledon saw more than just great tennis and strawberries and cream, yes.... rain...as well as the usual shocks! All four top seeds in the men's are still competing whilst the ladies lost two of the top three seeds. Here's the full round up.Stanislas Wawrinka (No14 seed) lost to qualifier Simone Bolelli in straight sets, whilst three time finalist Andy Roddick crashed out to Feliciano Lopez of Spain. A huge win was recorded by 18 year old qualifier Bernard Tomic of Australia as he knocked out the No 5 seed, Robin Soderling in sraight sets in only an hour and 52 minutes. One of the biggest shock was seeing French Open Champion, Li Na kocked out by wild card Sabine Lisicki of Germany, whilst Vera Zvonareva (2nd seed) was defeated by Tsetana Pironkova, sweet revenge fo her semi-final defeat at last years Championships. Another top seed to fall was Francesca Schiavone by unseeded Tamira Paszek. Talanted Czech player, Petra Cetkovska knocked out Ana Ivanovic.Tennis Works player, 15 year old Josh Sapwell (see his diary at www.tennisworks.net) lost in the first round of qualifying for Junior Wimbledon against the No 1 seed in two sets, 6-1, 6-4. Whilst 10 year old Lauren Armstrong who trains with Tennis Works and Everyball Academy coach Phil Hill, played in an exhibition match on court 5 on Saturday. A great experience for this young player. So will it be another Nadal v Federer final? Both Nadal and Murray have tricky matches against Del Potro and Gasquet respectively. An interesting match to watch out for is Mardy Fish against last years runner up Tomas Berdych. The ladies is wide open and Sharapova and Wozincki will be pleased to have seen the seeds that have fallen, although Serena looms.Junior Wimbledon started on Saturday and Monday sees a few British players on display whose coaches are associates of Tennis Works - Katie Dunn (Court 5); Toby Martin (Court 6) and Laura Deigman (Court 7). Good luck to them all.Don't foregt for those of you in Milton Keynes (UK), next week. Nigel Long presents the next live seminar, entitled 'Cardio Tennis', on the 4th July. For information on all of our events, please visit www.tennisworks.net.
