Maria battled back from 3-6 1-4 down against Caroline Garcia of France to advance to the 3rd round of Roland Garros. Maria won the match 3-6 6-4 6-0 in just under 2 hours.Garcia took controlof the 1st set as she raced into a 5-1 lead. Maria staged a mini comeback as she won the next 2 games but Garcia took the 1 game she needed for the set as she won it 6-3.The match wasn't looking good for Maria as she was down 1-4 in the 2nd set but she re-grouped and took the next 5 games to take the set 6-4.The momentum continued in the 3rd set as Maria continued her winning streak of games and didn't drop a game as she took the set 6-0.After the win, Maria said: "I think I was way too concerned about the conditions and wasn't moving my feet. I was just really slow, and she was playing so aggressively and hitting great shots. I felt really flat-footed in the beginning. I think I relaxed and just let things happen. I just hit the ball finally. I just never think the match is over until it actually is. No matter what the situation you're in, no matter how good or bad you feel, you've got to finish the match. I'll never give up out there."In Saturday's 3rd round match, Maria will play Yung-jan Chan of Taipei. Maria has played the 21-year-old twice before and leads the series 2-0. Both matches were in 2007 at Miami and Wimbledon and Maria won both matches in straight sets.In the WTA rankings, Maria provisionally is up to No.6 with 4481 points.
