An audio-only montage of clips from Nottingham's pioneering unlicensed broadcaster, Globe FM.As one of its four founders, I was involved from inception in October 1991, maintaining an often stormy relationship with the station until late 1993. I was only 17 when test transmissions commenced, so those two years felt like a lifetime. Globe FM changed frequencies numerous times, saw several complete turn-overs of personnel and was raided relentlessly, ultimately resulting in the station's demise and a suspended sentence for its, by then, sole manager and owner. However, the station nurtured its talent and gave birth to countless careers, with ex-Globe alumni now working for the BBC, the four major commercial radio groups and across all media; some remain plying their trade in night-clubs, internationally. The clips included here represent all I have left and are very poor quality, rescued from battered cassette tapes, and are presented randomly. The earliest audio is from late 1991; the latest recording is from my last show for the station in 1993.Globe FM never saw itself as a pirate and strived for quality. Some fifteen years on, I think it's fair to say, the clips you'll hear demonstrate that Globe FM was certainly "of its time".Coming up in Part One:Mark Wright Rozalla jingle (produced by Andy Burton)People's Bakery advert (voiced by Andy Millinship)Nottingham's Favourite Hits jingle (Manchester Mix)ACFF commercial (syndicated)101 FM Music Radio For 90s jingle (Manchester Mix)Colin Murray link (not that one)Only One 101 FM jingle (Manchester Mix)Phil Fielding's Asylum trail (voiced by Paul O'Brien)Globe FM Sales promo (voiced by Jevan Lloyd)Sacha Brooks link (her last show trailing Tony Angel and Pastor John)News In into Roger Walker (Bill Mitchell)Powerhouse Promotions ad (mic popped by Franklin Hughes!)Mark Wright's Last Show (including phone chat with Phil Fielding)Radical Radio jingle (Bill Michell)Solid Gold trail (voiced by Darryl Sommers)Mark Wright jingles (Powershots, Bill Mitchell, Manchester Mix, etc.)6 City DJ Clash ad (voiced and produced by Dr D)Another News In (into Philip Cotterill)Mark Wright's Weather BedJetstar Murder She Wrote ad (voiced by Andy Lloyd)Music In Your Life jingle (Manchester Mix, remade by Phil Fielding)The Experience jingle (made and voiced by Chris Kerry (?? is that right ??))
