Greg was ranked number one in 1997, briefly, after getting to the US Open final and was defeated by Pat Rafter 6--3, 6--2, 4--6, 7--5. A great achievement to even reach a Grand Slam Final, a goal that remained out of reach for his British rival Tim Henman. He was later officially ranked as world number four, which is still quite an achievement. He won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year that year.He won the Paris Masters and defeated Pete Sampras in 1998. After his injury at Queens in 1998 where he badly hurt his ankle, his career took a tumble. He had a great chance for the Wimbledon final he had managed to get to the quarters the year before but had sheer bad luck due to his injury. He has a British mother, and a father of polish descent and was born in Canada. He married his childhood sweetheart Lucy a British girl and they have a daughter Scarlett. Greg was never really accepted as a British player by the press and the media due to his Canadian roots, and promoted Tim Henman as our best British Player. Greg had great style, reminding me of John McEnroe due to him being left handed and a serve and volley player. If anyone out there have more videos of Greg, please put them up, he deserves recognition for the years he gave to tennis and the British Davis Cup. I will always have a soft spot for Greg, I met him in 1997 in Newcastle. He was very sweet, thanks for these memories Greg.
